When Kyle O’Reilly made his debut for All Elite Wrestling following the expiration of his WWE contract, fans were ready to see him rise to the top of the card. He’d manage a few high profile tag team championship matches and big time singles matches, before going down with a neck injury in June 2022. This would end with neck fusion surgery, and O’Reilly is still working on getting ready for his in-ring return.
Kyle O’Reilly Is Dealing With Post-Surgical Issue
Wanting to keep his fans in the loop, O’Reilly would provide an injury update recently – promising to come back better than ever, but has a ‘post-surgical issue’ slowing his progress.
“New year, new me. I hate how cheesy and cliche that sounds but in the case of Kyle O’Reilly and 2023 it rings very true. Dealing with a post-surgical issue (that I will disclose at a later date) has caused me a lot of frustration and I’ve spent the last few months of ‘22 with anger and confusion. In order for me to return to the ring I simply cannot come back as good as I was. I have to become better in every aspect of my athletic wellness. I have to train better, eat smarter and recover with intention.”
The full statement can be read here on his Instagram account.
Potentially A Top Star For Ring of Honor After His Return
There is little doubt that O’Reilly will find a major role upon his return, be it with AEW or Ring of Honor. O’Reilly is a former ROH World Champion, but has not had a chance to get into a ROH ring since Khan has purchased the company. Being able to promote a match like Kyle O’Reilly vs. Claudio Castagnoli for a ROH PPV would be big, and certainly move some tickets and PPV buys alone.
Returning from injury is always a massive task for a professional wrestler, and we can only hope that O’Reilly will be able to overcome the issues that are presently holding him back.
