BKFC fighter and former UFC welterweight Mike Perry has faced his own demons. Perry allegedly committed acts of domestic violence against his ex-wife Danielle Nickerson, and has committed since to being a better person. In the wake of the shocking video of UFC president Dana White slapping his wife at a New Year’s Eve party, Perry offered some advice to his old employer.
“I saw a video of Dana White’s explanation. He definitely had no excuses. He said, ‘Everyone who is talking about me, they’re probably right, I made a mistake.’ How long has that guy been in the public eye? For so many years, and for something like this to happen maybe he grabbed her wrist, she struck him, he struck back, alcohol involved, New Year’s [Eve], tough times. Man, people go through that.
Mike Perry: Dana White Had “No Excuses” For Slapping Wife
That happens to people. I’m definitely not innocent in my life.” Mike Perry, who faced domestic violence allegations in 2020 around the same time as he allegedly assaulted three people in a restaurant in Lubbock, Texas, parted ways with the UFC not long afterwards. He currently fights as a bareknuckle boxer under the BKFC promotion, but has refused to talk trash about the UFC or his old employers.
In the video, Dana White can be seen grabbing his wife’s wrist before she slaps him across the face. White then repeatedly slaps her in retaliation, until the pair are separated. Perry stressed the importance of moving forward, and stated that he was unwilling to “talk bad about the guy”.
“We have to move forward. You do a million good things, then you do one bad thing and everyone is on your case about it. With someone as powerful as that, they get the chance to talk trash, or put them out there as this evil, bad person.
It could’ve been worse, it could’ve been better. What can you do? You go forward. Dana’s probably going to donate to some charity this week. I can’t sit here and talk bad about the guy. So that’s my comment.” In addition to this, Mike Perry claims that he was recently offered a lucrative boxing match against YouTuber Jake Paul.
“I think it was [this past] December. People are still in the comments think I faked the contract. What? Did I type that up? You think I typed that up? C’mon, man, I can’t type that up. It’s ridiculous, people will see it with their own eyes and still be in disbelief. It’s not like it matters. Jake’s got five pro boxing fights — if you could call them all pro boxing fights — he’s gotten a lot better since he’s been competing, he’s training all the time.
I sparred him once, and I think it would be a great boxing match. I can’t lie, I’m a bare knuckle boxer, and I like to punch without anything, but with the gloves on I feel like I hit harder, and I think it would be interesting to see what I could do.”
