When Prince Harry asked Queen Elizabeth II for her permission to marry Meghan Markle, he revealed that he felt foolish after he initially misconstrued her reply.
Prince Harry Reveals His Awkward Response After Asking Queen Elizabeth II’s Permission To Marry Meghan-‘Was She Being Sarcastic? Ironic?’
In his book Spare, the Duke of Sussex talks about the private talk he had with the late Queen in 2017 regarding popping the question to the actress.
He says that he chose to raise the issue during a hunting trip in Sandringham since he thought the Queen would be in a better mood and possibly more inclined to give her approval to the proposal.
In his book, Harry recalled the whole encounter. He said: “I’ve been told that I have to ask your permission before I can propose,” as the Queen replied: “You have to? Well, then I suppose I have to say yes.”
Initially, Harry was perplexed by the Queen’s answer, but after giving it some thought he eventually figured out that her words were a sign of her consent. Much to his delight, Harry thanked her and exclaimed that it was “fabulous.”
He felt somewhat foolish for not understanding her message sooner. His following comments confirmed as much: “I didn’t get it. Was she being sarcastic? Ironic? Deliberately cryptic? Was she indulging in a bit of wordplay?”
Harry eventually proposed to Meghan. The two famous personalities declared their engagement in November 2017 and got married in a grandiose ceremony at St. George’s Castle located in Windsor Castle.
The rest was history as they went on to welcome two children: Archie and Lilibet. Not only that, but they left the firm in 2020 to live in Montecito, California.
And ever since that moment, they have not looked back by being very vocal about their time in the firm. And as long as the pair are in a good place, then they will not mind what the critics have to say.
So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
