Prince Harry has appeared to have gone back on his word to renounce his royal titles.
Prince Harry Slammed For Backtracking On His Comments Over Giving Up Royal Titles-‘If Harry Has Any Self-Respect He Should Renounce His Title Himself,’ Says Jonathan Sacerdoti
Harry, for his part, made it clear in his and Meghan Markle’s Netflix docuseries that he had previously informed the current monarch, King Charles III, that they would be willing to give up their titles.
Although that may have been the case, it appears that Harry has had a change of heart since then. During an interview with 60 Minutes’ Anderson Cooper for the promotion of his memoir, Spare, Harry made it clear that the absence of titles would not result in anything being achieved.
In his comments at the time, Harry remarked: “And what difference would that make?” Those comments have not gone down well, as royal expert Jonathan Sacerdoti felt Harry was coming across as hypocritical and entitled.
In his comments, he said: “If Harry has any self-respect he should renounce his title himself. The monarchy here isn’t just a soap opera.
“It’s not just a celebrity story, it’s a fundamental part of the British constitution.” Harry’s decision to go back on his words may be due to the following reasons.
First of all, there is no denying that the title does add an element of gravitas when it comes to securing lucrative deals. Harry’s memoir, docuseries and even Meghan Markle’s Archetypes podcast is indicative of that.
Secondly, given how well Harry’s memoir has done since its release, without the title the demand may not have been the same. After all, the book became the fastest non-fiction book to be sold when it was released on Tuesday, 10th January 2023.
The fans on social media bashed Harry over his conduct. Large numbers of people made it clear that the Duke of Sussex was using his family for financial gain.
One person wrote: “He will never give those up, because only way they can make money bashing his family.it’s disgusting.”
