As NXT continues its vision of the future of the brand, there will need to not only be a steady flow of interesting talent, but also interesting storylines to accompany them. Here are three storylines that could boost NXT in 2023.
Gallus vs The New Day
This one could be fun and the number one goal of this storyline would be to get Gallus over. Gallus is a three man group, so Joe Coffey would probably have to find something else to do while the other two men battle Kofi and Xavier.
I can see a series of great matches between these two teams and many other teams in the division benefiting off of them. At this point in their careers and for as much as they have accomplished, I don’t think that the New Day have any issues putting over the new guys.
The Dusty Tag Team Classic is coming up and I think that it will be a great way for a lot of unknown teams to make themselves known. Gallus will be one of those teams for sure, and the UK team will be on top for most of the year.
Also, there are rumors that Big E might get cleared to return to the ring sometime this year. If this is true, I think that he could have some involvement in this storyline before he eventually goes back to Monday nights.
Dijak vs Odyssey Jones
Dijak currently has his eyes set on the North American Championship (for some reason). Wes Lee is the current champion, but I don’t see him being champ the whole year.
At some point, Dijak is going to win that title and when he does, he will need a notable challenger. In comes Odyssey Jones. A big guy that looks mean and can work.
Odyssey needs a few matches to truly let us know that he is a serious contender, but that can be done.
As for the storyline between the two, I could see it dominating the back end of the year and spilling over into early next year. Also, I could see this feud transitioning from a feud over the North American Championship to being over the NXT Championship.
Dragon Lee vs Wes Lee
Will this be the battle of the Lee’s? Most likely not. I think that NXT will change Dragon Lee’s name before he debuts in the company.
With this being said, how will he get established? By a friendly feud over skill, of course.
Every storyline doesn’t have to be over a championship or have championship implications. Sometimes, we get feuds for the sake of there being a feud.
Here, there are two wrestlers with similar in ring styles just going at it. I could see this turning into a best of five or best of seven series of matches. I think that this might be the best way to go for them because neither of them has the best charisma.
This will be a springboard to bigger things for both men. For Dragon Lee, a springboard to the main event and for Wes Lee, possibly a springboard to the main roster.
