Every year in wrestling, there are breakout stars that exceed expectations. Last year, on Monday nights, one of these wrestlers was Bianca Belair. At the start of the year, people knew she would have a great year, but she basically carried the whole women’s division on her back. Here are three wrestlers that will do the same thing this year.
Dominik Mysterio
How did this guy go from boring babyface to snarly, sneaky heel over the course of about six months? I have no idea either, but there is one thing that stands out to me with Dom.
His character works. In ring, he is solid, but nothing special. Outside the ring though, he has been very boring for most of his short career. Since he joined the Judgment Day, he has become one of the most interesting characters on the Raw roster.
They are doing this through unconventional ways. WWE is utilizing the power of its social media platforms to make him more interesting. From him and Rhea visiting the Mysterio family home on Thanksgiving to Dom getting “arrested” and doing hard time, he is someone that make Monday nights better.
In 2023, he has to show more in the ring, but not too much. If he can show that he is capable of holding a good 7-to-10-minute match, I think that it will be enough to make him into a solid star for 2024.
Montez Ford
Talk about a guy that has it all. In ring work, athleticism, charisma, and a great look. Ford’s 2022 was halted because of an injury but even if he didn’t get that injury, I don’t think that his year would’ve looked much different.
Being a tag team wrestler on Monday nights was like being a women’s wrestler on Fridays. There wasn’t much there for you.
In 2023, I think that Ford will break out as a singles star. I also think that he has the look and ability to pull off an amazing heel character.
I think that the dynamic could be great, especially with his wife being one of the biggest babyfaces in the company. Look for Montez to start off small, then work his way up to bigger and more meaningful storylines.
Rhea Ripley
Everyone can’t be on top at the same time at all times. This was the story of Rhea Ripley. Since she got called up to the main roster full time, she has never gotten a fair shot.
It is one thing if you get your shot and you fail at it, but to not even get to try in the first place is a whole other story.
Rhea is great in the ring and has a look that is different than all of the other women.
In 2023, I think that she will have a great year feuding with some of the best women that WWE has to offer and don’t be surprised if you see her name in the running for wrestler of the year at the end.
