As King Charles III presented Lily Ebert, a Holocaust survivor, with an MBE at Windsor Castle, she could not help but get emotional.
King Charles III Honours Holocaust Survivor With An MBE
On Tuesday, 30th January 2023, the 99-year-old was honoured with the title of Member of The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire due to her efforts in teaching about the Holocaust.
The event had reportedly taken the lives of 6 million Jews during the Second World War. When Ebert was 20 years old, her and her family were transported to Auschwitz.
Unfortunately, her mother and two of her siblings perished there. She struggled to stay alive and look after her other sisters, managing to endure it until the liberation of the camp. She then relocated to Israel and eventually moved to London.
She later married and had three children. During the COVID-19 crisis, Lily became a celebrity on social media platforms when her great-grandson, Dov Forman, created a TikTok account to share her amazing tale of endurance.
With that being said, Lily could not help but feel overwhelmed with the honour. In the picture here, we can see her holding the honour alongside Dov. She has a massive smile on her face and could not be any happier.
Dov captioned the post with the following comments: “It was so humbling to see my incredible, 99 year old, great grandmother receive her MBE today, at Windsor Castle, from His Majesty The King.
“Lily said to the King: ‘I was in the hell, Auschwitz. How special it is to be here today, with The King, in the Palace.”
The social media response was well received, as large numbers of people came out in droves in order to praise her bravery. And in the process, they felt the award was deserved. One person wrote: “Big congratulations!! So very well deserved.”
