Whenever we get close to WrestleMania, it’s not unusual to hear retired superstars discuss their chances of returning to the ring. Sometimes, we can hear from a superstar who retired that decade.
The Undertaker is the latest WWE superstar to discuss his chances of returning after retiring from action at Super ShowDown 2020. That was less than three years ago but he’s a wrestler who around for multiple generations of wrestling fans.
The Undertaker Explains Why He Won’t Return to the Ring
In the same way fans clamor for Stone Cold or The Rock at WrestleMania, fans want The Deadman back—even if we had him around longer than both men. In an interview on Hawk vs. Wolf with Tony Hawk and Jason Ellis, Taker said that he just isn’t in the physical condition for the performance he’d want to give fans.
“Absolutely. If I was physically able to do it, I would be out there right now. There is a huge amount of our fanbase that will grade you on a curve. They understand that you’re getting long in the tooth, you have a lot of miles on you, but they just want you out there. Then there is one part of that fanbase, ‘Ah man, he’s old, he shouldn’t be out there, he shouldn’t be doing this.’ Without any hesitation at all, if I felt like I could go and deliver, and deliver a performance that people expect when they see my name on the card, I would do it, but I know I can’t.” (via Fightful)
Honestly, that’s big of The Undertaker to admit it. We’ve seen the video of what the WWE hall of famer goes through to make sure his knees can hold up for one match. Also, Taker comes from a period in wrestling when it wasn’t unusual to see wrestlers who were past their bump card in the ring.
Often, those guys weren’t putting on their best match and as The Deadman said; there are those fans who just wanted to see them and others who just aren’t with it at all.
So, don’t expect The Undertaker to be in the ring any time soon or at all but don’t expect him to fade away as he’s been busy with several projects while continuing to follow and be involved the product.
