Smackdown had a strong showing at Royal Rumble. There are already established storylines on the show that will be continued as well as the one of the best storylines that the company has ever done. Here are the top storylines on WWE Friday Night Smackdown.
GUNTHER vs Drew McIntyre?
After GUNTHER’s MVP showing in the men’s Royal Rumble match, I think that it is obvious that he is going to be an even bigger part of Smackdown moving forward.
Who his next challenger will be is a mystery but if I had to guess, I think that it will either be Braun Stroman again or more likely, Drew McIntyre.
GUNTHER eliminated both Sheamus and Drew at the same time at Royal Rumble. They had a lot of time to wrestle each other during the match and it would also be a fresh matchup.
I am not the biggest fan of Drew but he is a great wrestler and a fan favorite. I think that it is possible that Drew and GUNTHER would have a better match than GUNTHER and Sheamus.
This could lead to a match between GUNTHER, Drew, and Sheamus at WrestleMania.
Charlotte vs Rhea Ripley
This one is going to be very interesting. There is a lot going on with this one. Charlotte and Rhea had a match at WrestleMania two years ago and Charlotte won. They had a match in NXT and Charlotte beat her for the NXT Women’s title.
This is going to be an interesting feud because Charlotte is a babyface and Rhea is a heel but I think that the roles are going to be reversed unless Rhea can do something that makes the crowd hate her.
It’s going to be an uphill battle for this to happen but despite that, I think that the feud and match will still be great.
This feud might be very emotional and have some hard jabs at each other but I think that this will be the main event for the first night. With that being said, they HAVE to do all that they can to make this storyline interesting.
Roman Reigns (The Bloodline) vs Sami Zayn
The storyline that has the whole wrestling world captivated. I don’t think that anyone that has been a wrestling fan for more than one year was surprised at what happened.
We could see this happening from a mile away. For it to happen and us still react the way that we did, I think that it shows how invested in the storyline we are.
All people involved have been top tier from the start. This is as much about Sami and the Bloodline as a whole than it is about Sami and Roman.
Sami is probably going to be the biggest babyface after this. Kevin Owens will be in this storyline of course, but I don’t think that he will be a focal point.
Focusing on Roman and Sami, I think that these few weeks of them facing off and having segments on Smackdown will be at least two times better than whatever Roman and Cody can come up with.
