The FTR tandem of Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler has proven chemistry against fellow multi-time, multi-promotion tag team champions the Good Brothers. Their showdown at Royal Rumble 2018 is often mentioned as one of WWE’s most enjoyable tag team matches ever—at least on one of WWE’s big four PLEs.
However, there was one man who wasn’t a fan of the match at all: Vince McMahon.
Worst Match Ever: Vince McMahon Hated the FTR vs. the Good Brothers at Royal Rumble 2018
On the FTR podcast with co-host Matt Koon, Wheeler touched on what Vince McMahon thought of their match. According to Dax, the booking of the FTR-Good Brothers rivalry was pretty flexible match-wise. Since the two teams faced each other so much in a pretty short period, it got to the point where the only thing that mattered on that front was who won last time.
Once they figured that out, the loser of the last match was given the win. By the time of their Royal Rumble match, the two teams had chemistry within WWE’s in-ring approach. They figured it was a good bout and returned backstage to find Vince McMahon waiting for them.
“We came to the back and he said, ‘Welp, that was absolutely the worst wrestling match I’ve ever seen in my entire life.’ The worst wresting match he has ever seen. This man has been in the business for 50 years. This was the worst match he’s ever seen in his entire life. Since the 70s, owning the company since 83. You can ask Anderson or Gallows, he said it’s the worst he’s ever seen. I kind of took it as a badge of pride. You’ve been through the (Hulk) Hogan era, (Steve) Austin era, Bret (Hart) era, you’ve seen every match possible. Top to bottom. You’ve seen Sivi Afi, dude. Sivi Afi, and we had the absolute worst match of all time.” (h/t Fightful)
Harwood jokingly viewed McMahon’s evaluation as “an accomplishment” given all of the stuff Vinnie Mac has seen in the WWE.
