Out of all the talent who joined the WWE roster following the death of WCW, few had more chances to shine than Booker T. The five time World Champion would become a main event level name for WWE, feuding with the likes of Stone Cold, The Rock, Triple H, John Cena, and even winning a sixth World Championship. Booker is a two time WWE Hall of Famer, with both his singles career and time alongside brother Stevie Ray as Harlem Heat being honoured. However, his final match has already happened – as after the 2023 Royal Rumble, he is ready to retire.
Booker T Announces His Retirement From Professional Wrestling
Booker T was a last minute addition to the Royal Rumble, getting a big response from the crowd for his entrance, lasting just 42 seconds in the ring before being thrown out of the ring by GUNTHER. On his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T would say that is the final time fans will see him wrestle.
“I’m gonna tell you right now, I think that was the last time people are going to see me in the ring. At Reality of Wrestling, I’m going to work with my students, but as far as putting my boots on again, that was the last time. It’s kind of sad too. I’m kind of choked up about it a little bit. It was a great exit for me.
I don’t think it could have been better than that, but putting the old boots up, it’s kind of hard. I think that was the last time putting on the boots and getting back in the ring at that level. I think that’s the last time I really want to do it at that level. I don’t think it can get better than that, seriously. I want to thank all the fans for that moment.”
Booker runs the Reality of Wrestling promotion, which recently partnered with WWE NXT. On WWE NXT, Booker T has the role of color commentator alongside Vic Joesph, who handles play-by-play. Fans will get no shortage of time with Booker T on TV as a result, but he’s ready to leave the wrestling for the younger names in the company.
