Katana Chance & Kayden Carter recently hit a milestone, being the longest reigning women’s tag team champions in WWE history at 186 days, beating the previous record of 158 days set by the first reign of Toxic Attraction. They’ve surpassed the reigns of NXT, Smackdown & RAW – perhaps being the first truly great tag team in modern WWE women’s division history.
Tonight they look to make their 5th defence – as they take on a fresh team in Fallon Henley & Kiana James. Following a battle over the family bar of Henley, these rivals turned friends would get a victory over Diamond Mine members Ivy Nile & Tatum Paxley on NXT TV, and now find themselves having to get along with gold on the line.
Kayden Carter & Katana Chance Show Their Superior Tag Team Chemistry
With Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen in their corner, Henley & James would look confident here tonight – despite their lack of a track record. James would kick things off with Carter, and things would get fired up as Carter slipped from the ring to slap the butt of Jensen, who formerly had a crush on Carter. The champions would lose this lack of focus from James to gain control, allowing for some quick signature tag team offence.
Henley would get the tag, but would be hesitant to punch Chance as James would pull the hair. This miscue would lose them the advantage, with James fighting to nail Chance with a backdrop suplex, before hitting some shoulder thrusts in the corner. Henley would get the well timed tag, with James throwing Chance off the ropes as Henley set up and hit the running neckbreaker.
Henley would look for a backdrop suplex in the wrong part of the ring, allowing Chance to make the tag to Carter. Some quick offence from Carter would set up a two for one special in the corner, as James took the dropkick and Henley the splash. Chance would get the blind tag, and would flow to the outside as Carter launched her into a crossbody on Henley & James.
All Historic Reigns End Eventually
James would be dropped with a headscissor takedown, before being able to plant Carter in the middle of the ring with a AA Spinebuster. Chance would be able to cut James down, but James would get her knees up to block the moonsault. Henley would hit a Springboard Blockbuster before a Michinoku Driver for the two count – with Carter breaking the pinfall up.
James would send Carter to the floor and look for a moonsault off the apron, with Carter avoiding and nailing the cutter. Jensen & Briggs would try to revive James at ringside, as Henley would throw stiff strikes in the middle of the ring. Henley would look for a superplex in the wrong corner, with Carter instead getting her up in the Electric Chair – only for Chance to hit a Frankensteiner for the near fall.
Neckbreaker/450 Splash combo would be set up, with James able to shove Chance off the top rope. Henley would get the roll up on Carter, and James would hold the legs down out of the view of the referee – allowing for the victory! It’s unclear how this will sit with the straight laced Henley, but for now – she’s a champion!
