Austin Theory only has a few more days left to prepare for his match with John Cena at WrestleMania 39. Set to defend the United States Championship against one of the biggest names in WWE history will have anyone nervous, regardless of their level of skill in the ring.
It’s the biggest match of Theory’s career by a large margin, but his time in the company has taught him to stay cool under pressure – especially his time alongside Johnny Gargano & Candice LeRae as “The Way”.
Austin Theory Learned How To Relax A Bit During His Time In WWE NXT </h3
While speaking with Fightful’s Joel Pearl ahead of WrestleMania 39 – Theory would reveal when he found his comfort place within WWE. It was during his time in NXT learning from Gargano that he was finally able to relax and let his personality shine through.
“I would say, when you get to the WWE, you’re trying to figure everything out, trying to figure out how everything works and what you need to do right. It keeps you on edge a little bit. But when I met Johnny and Candice and got to work with them in The Way, it almost let me relax a little bit and find that personality that I have and not just go through the motions or trying to figure out all this stuff. ‘Hey, just relax. Let’s do this.’ We just had fun. Honestly, when we were filming stuff or giving advice on, ‘Hey, can we say this instead? Because it might work better.’ It just naturally all flowed. It was bringing that personality and turning it up a lot.”
We’ve seen Theory interact with Gargano since he left NXT, with them now set up as rivals more than allies. They met in the 2023 Elimination Chamber match, which Theory won thanks to the aid of Logan Paul.
Is The Future Now In WWE?
When it comes to being put in high pressure situations, Theory has found himself in many over the past year. He’s been involved in storylines with Vince McMahon, shared the ring with Stone Cold Steve Austin, won Money in the Bank, and proved his skills in big time matches.
Theory is groomed as a future top star of the company – but WrestleMania 39 will show if the future is now.
It has been announced that Theory vs. Cena will open the first night of WrestleMania 39, meaning they have a chance to set the standard for the rest of the weekend with their match.
