According to royal expert Gareth Russell, Queen Consort Camilla has made a special gesture before the Coronation of King Charles III, leaving the possibility open for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to attend.
Camilla Makes Move To Try And Integrate The Sussexes
Reports indicate that Camilla has requested that her grandchildren take on a role at the Coronation. Therefore, it may be difficult for the Palace to refuse Harry and Meghan’s involvement in this task, as the grandchildren are not currently working members of the royal family, like the Sussexes.
In his comments, Russell said: “She has said she doesn’t want four duchesses, she wants her four grandchildren to carry the canopy over her, which is a lovely gesture.
“She’s very close to her grandchildren but what that does is it upsets the argument that, since Harry is not a working royal, there’s no place for him in the ceremony.”
Camilla’s daughter Laura has three children named Eliza, Gus, and Louis, who are 15 and 14 years old respectively. Meanwhile, Camilla’s son Thomas Parker Bowles is a father to Lola, aged 16, and Freddy, aged 12.
Russell proposed that if the non-royal grandchildren were included in the Coronation, it would create difficulties for the Palace in justifying why Harry and Meghan were not given a place in the event.
From a young age, Camilla has been very attached to her grandchildren and has involved them in her royal lifestyle. Last year, during Christmas, all five of them were present at Sandringham with the Royal Family.
In 2011, Eliza, one of Camilla’s grandchildren, even participated as a flower girl in the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Therefore, there is more that could be done to give the Sussexes a role. Russell’s following comments confirmed as much: “Obviously, Queen Camilla’s grandchildren are not only not working royals, they’ve never been working royals.
“So if a space can be found for them the Palace is going to be very hard-pressed to explain why no role could be found for Prince Harry.”
Ultimately, the Sussexes have to decide whether they want to attend the Coronation, knowing that it is on the same day as Archie’s fourth birthday. And if they do attend, their role has to be clearly defined. So how will it all play out?
