Well, CM Punk is no stranger to controversy in anyway as he struck back at Dave Melter and Chris Jericho following Meltzer’s claim that Punk changed his mind about his feud with Moxley and Tony Kahn had to put his foot down.
As far as behind the scenes stories go, this is a pretty interesting one as Punk seems tired of listening to what the wrestling media has to say, especially if it’s wrong or isn’t favorable to him.
CM Punk Called Dave Meltzer and Chris Jericho Liars
His going after the media was part of the All Out Media Scrum interview that seemed to get things fired up before he went after AEW’s EVPs.
It’s always a tricky situation when one person says one thing and another says something different, and we’re curious what the whole story is.
One thing for sure is Meltzer apparently heard this second hand, so there’s a chance it wasn’t conveyed properly or he misrepresented it. Or he could be accurate.
Either way, Punk felt the need to defend himself in a since deleted Instagram story, so we’ll let you be the judge of who’s telling the truth.

Two sides
This is how feuds start, and the action behind the curtain is usually better than what’s happening in front of it.
On the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer said:
“Do you know why they didn’t advertise Punk vs. Moxley longer and why it had a short build? Because Punk agreed to it, then AEW got a legal letter saying he wasn’t down with it and wasn’t doing it and they didn’t know if he’d come until Tony put his foot down. There are a lot of nice things I can say about him, and you can absolutely argue his position on Moxley was correct, but you can’t argue he willingly did what he was asked in that scenario.”
In what appears to be Punk’s reply to Meltzer’s take or report of the backstage happenings, Punk shared the following in a deleted Instagram story:
“SIGH. I wasn’t cleared to come back to wrestle yet. Then plan was to wrestle at the ppv. I sat and listened to moxleys Rocky three idea. I explained how I’d never seen a Rocky movie.l and thought the idea sucked but if the boss wanted to do it whatever. He said he wouldn’t lose to me. I’d never experienced someone refusing to lose to me. I just laughed. I asked Tony if this was what he wanted. He said yes. He’s the boss so I said okay but I’d need to be cleared first. They kept saying it could just be a squash so I didn’t need to be cleared. I scoffed at that. My health is more important. Dave Meltzer is a liar. Jericho is a liar and a stooge. There were plans but plans always change but I’ll never put a company above my health ever again.”

Following Punk’s post, Chris Jericho posted a gif of Matt Hardy saying “DELETE!” and it looks like Punk took the advice/
As always, there are two sides to every story and there will probably be more to come in the following days and we’ll keep you updated as more comes out.
