A former acquaintance has stated that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did not anticipate receiving ridicule after the publication of Harry’s revealing memoir, Spare.
Harry And Meghan Didn’t Anticipate Major Backlash Following Duke’s Memoir-Says Former Friend
The Duke of Sussex has made several allegations against members of the Royal Family and shared details about his new life in California in his book. He accused his brother, Prince William, of assaulting him.
This was followed up by the Duke’s words of referring to Queen Consort Camilla as a villain. Harry also provided an extensive account of his bond with King Charles III, his father.
One such admission was that his father had not hugged him when he relayed the news that Princess Diana had died. Although the book has achieved remarkable success in publishing globally, it has also faced criticism from several renowned celebrities.
For instance, Chris Rock has targeted Meghan in his Netflix show, and Trevor Noah made a joke about Harry’s genitalia being frost-bitten while hosting the Grammy Awards recently.
According to a former acquaintance, Nick Ede, of Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were taken aback by the embarrassing quips amid the decision to publish the memoir was a significant error.
In his comments, Nick said: “I don’t think they would have thought that people like Trevor Noah, for instance, would joke about them at the Grammys and that it would be humiliating.
“Humour is always about the zeitgeist of what’s going on. It’s about what’s happening now, so they’re the sort of low hanging fruit.”
Meghan and Harry were also ridiculed in an episode of South Park where they were portrayed as the “Prince and Princess of Canada” on a global tour for privacy.
The couple had reportedly considered taking legal action against the show, but a spokesperson denied the allegations. It is not surprising then that the social media response was damning.
This was on the basis that the public felt the couple had caused their own downfall by attacking the firm. Therefore, the best possible solution for the pair was to move on by rebranding themselves.
One person wrote: “If you put yourselves on a pedestal be prepared to get knocked off!! You can’t except all the good things when sticking your neck out, you need to except the bad things also.”
