During the most recent episode of “American Idol,” some viewers accused Katy Perry, one of the judges, of bullying and engaging in “mom shaming” towards contestant Sara Beth Liebe.
Katy Perry Slammed For ‘Mom Shaming’ American Idol Contestant-‘They Let Katy Perry Bully This Woman’
Liebe began her audition by declaring that she was 25 years old but the judges expressed surprise claiming that she appeared much younger like a teenager.
After learning that being a mother had not given her much time for herself and that she was attempting to sing for the first time outside of karaoke and church choir, Perry inquired of Liebe whether singing was her aspiration.
In her comments, Beth said: “I have three kids. If Katy lays on the table I think I’m going to pass out,” to which Perry replied: “Honey, you’ve been laying on the table too much.”
That was not the only thing that Perry called out Beth on though. She questioned whether singing was a real career for her by suggesting that many people do end up abandoning their dreams. And once her audition was over, Perry did not hold back.
The judges expressed their admiration for her performance during the audition, but Perry playfully referred to her as the “accidental American Idol.”
The social response was damning. This was on the basis that Perry was coming across as arrogant and entitled, which did not win her any favors. One person wrote: “Boo to Katy Perry for mom shaming Sara Beth.
“Insinuating that she has been ‘laying on the table too much’ to have 3 kids by age 25. A young mother following a dream while raising her children should be raised up not put down.
While another person stated: “They let Katy Perry bully this woman on live national tv before she even started singing. So ugly.”
