NXT superstar, Carmelo Hayes has a date with destiny on April 1st when he takes on NXT Champion, Bron Breakker at NXT Stand & Deliver. Among other things, Hayes spoke about his plans for the look of the NXT Championship belt while speaking on WWE’s The Bump YouTube show.
NXT Superstar Carmelo Hayes Wants a New NXT Championship Instead of the Current Multi-Colored NXT Championship
Since Carmelo Hayes debuted in NXT in 2021, he has been on the rise but someone who quickly surpassed him is his current rival and NXT Champion, Bron Breakker.
When NXT moved from it’s original “black and gold” era to the new, Vince led, NXT 2.0, many things changed including the types of wrestlers on the roster, the in ring style of the product, the presentation and gimmicks of the wrestlers, and the presentation and color scheme of the show.
Along with this, the NXT championship got a new multi-colored look that some liked and some didn’t. Someone who don’t sounds like he liked the change very much is the one that is challenging for the title at NXT Stand and Deliver. This is what he had to say while speaking to WWE’s The Bump.
“All I’m thinking about is that match with Bron. I’m not really thinking about much other than the match. I mean, I’d like to get away from the rainbow championship. I think that that defines that generation of Bron Breakker, and we’re gonna move way past that and go into the Him Era, which is my era, the Carmelo Hayes era. So it is a possibility, but I need to get to LA and I need to get to Stand & Deliver before we start talking about those types of things.” (h/t: Fightful)
Carmelo Hayes’ NXT Legacy So Far
Hayes has been one of the few stabilizing forces on NXT over the past two years when we have seen many wrestlers come and leave as well as brand change and slight brand change reversal.
After winning the NXT North American title in 2021, Melo has been sort of a gate keeper between the undercard and main event of NXT and has even flirted with the main event picture himself at times, even though he never got a shot at the NXT Championship.
This will be the first time that he competes for the biggest title on the brand and personally, I think that not only is it his time to shine, but it is time to make him the champion to move NXT into a new direction.
