Upon the announcement of Lilibet’s christening, a representative for Harry and Meghan used the term ‘princess’ for the first time to refer to the one-year-old.
The official website of the royal family has been updated to reflect the new title of the Sussex children, and a spokesperson for the couple confirmed this update with the following comments: “The children’s titles have been a birthright since their grandfather became Monarch.
“This matter has been settled for some time in alignment with Buckingham Palace.” US talk show host Megyn Kelly, known for her criticism of Prince Harry and Meghan, has expressed anger over their reliance on their royal titles as their sole source of value.
According to Kelly, the reason why the Duke and Duchess’ kids have titles is to maintain their relevance in the US. Megyn criticized Markle for accepting the royal title during her wedding but later criticizing the royal family.
In her comments, she said: “This is the act of a couple who understands their only currency is those titles. That’s all they have to pay the bills and make themselves interesting.
“Their approval ratings are through the floor, they went down even lower in America and in the UK, over the past couple of months.”
It has been known for some time that King Charles has wanted a monarchy with fewer working royals and less emphasis on royal titles. Given this, there had been uncertainty about what titles would be given to the children of the Sussexes.
During their interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, Meghan revealed that there were discussions within the Royal Family about changing the protocol so that Archie would not be granted a royal title.
