Over the past few years in WWE, one man has found himself in a bit of an odd spot. Drew McIntyre was red hot going into the 2020 Royal Rumble, and his victory was widely celebrated.
This was perhaps the worst possible time for a WWE push however, as COVID-19 would nearly shut down WWE barely two months after this – forcing his WrestleMania moment of defeating Brock Lesnar to happen in an empty arena.
Since then, McIntyre has struggled to find a starring role within WWE. Now, the former WWE Champion could now be looking at other options.
Drew McIntyre Is Unhappy With Creative & Money In WWE
Wade Keller of PWTorch would provide an update on Drew McIntyre. This came after McIntyre was pulled from the latest episode of Smackdown Live and an autograph signing. The following would be reported.
“We alluded to this that there’s been talk that he is unhappy with his current situation in WWE and I’m hearing it’s kind of a mix of creative and money and what kind of offer he’s getting for a renewal. It sounds like WWE is taking seriously the possibility that he is going to let his deal run out rather than agree to something that he believes is less than he deserves or less than he what he thinks he has coming.”
Right now is a tricky time in WWE for contract negotiations, with WWE’s recent $9.3 billion deal with Endeavor going through. It’s a time of rapid change in the company, and contract negotiations with someone that has the pull of McIntyre requires more stable ground.
A Perfect Fit For AEW Ahead Of Wembley Stadium
As for where McIntyre would go if he walks from WWE in the next few months – the answer is clear. That being All Elite Wrestling. Being the second biggest professional wrestling company in the United States, AEW is able to likely meet the price of a potential needle mover like Drew McIntyre.
With their debut in London, England at the historic Wembley Stadium set for August – AEW will be looking to pull out all the stops. Should McIntyre become a free agent? They will likely be aggressive in trying to bring him on board.
This could lead to a win either way for McIntyre. Interest from AEW will help him validate his demands of WWE. This could even help him to get a better deal at the end of the day.
It’s situations like this where having two major televised promotions in North America is incredibly healthy for professional wrestling, something fans haven’t truly seen since the Monday Night Wars.
