We’re seeing the final matches of a legend right now in All Elite Wrestling. Dustin Rhodes has been with the company since 2019, stealing the show at Double Or Nothing 2019 with brother Cody Rhodes – and defying fan expectations ever since.
However, at 54 years old – he is well aware that this last run won’t last forever. The real question is, will he finish up his career in AEW – or return to WWE to finish his career alongside Cody.
On the latest edition of the Grillin’ JR podcast – Jim Ross would pitch in on this situation. Ross feels Dustin will return to WWE to finish his career, stating the following.
“It would be a long shot based on Dustin’s age, and for this scenario he’ll be moving companies. He’d have to be hired by WWE. As crazy as it sounds, Dustin getting hired for a one-off or a big match at a stadium show is more likely than Cody coming back to AEW. I might be wrong on that deal. I don’t see that happening right away because Cody is on a rocket ship.
I’ve said on here that I believe that WWE made the right decision in keeping the title on Roman Reigns and let Cody chase and build and chase. I just thought that was the way to go. I still believe that even more strongly today because I’ve seen they’re doing stuff with Lesnar and added some new elements to that story. So I’m a big believer that the chase is the story.”
Even if Rhodes only returns to WWE for one night and then takes a backstage role as an agent or trainer role in the WWE Performance Center – it wouldn’t be hard to see this being a potential move.
He’s a sure shot to end up in the WWE Hall of Fame, and it’s not often that someone gets a chance to finish their career alongside their brother on a massive stage.
