‘The Young and the Restless’ star, Chene’ Lawson, who originated the role of Yolanda Hamilton, the mother of Devon, is coming back to Genoa City to reprise her role. Lawson last appeared in Genoa City in 2006
‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Chene’ Lawson Is Back In Town
Chene Lawson will appear on Y&R on Friday, May 5, 2023, and she will be appearing on several episodes. Fans of the soap opera will recall that she and her son, Devon were reunited in 2005, but the reunion did not last long. Devon’s biological mother made a play for Neil (the late Kristoff St. John) and left town soon after.
In 2011, Yolanda returned to Genoa city, however, actress Debbi Morgan took over the role, and she went by the name, Harmony. Debbj Morgans appeared on ‘Young and the Restless’ for about a year, and the character has not returned to the show seen since.
It is not clear what’s bringing Yolanda back to Genoa City. Since leaving the show about 17 years ago, actress Lawson went on to create and play the lead role in the scripted podcast series All Things Undone – a 2023 Webby Award winner. Yolanda’s return to Genoa City marks the first time in a while that Devon will have both his parents, Yolanda and Tucker (Trevor St. John), around the same time.
“It was like stepping into a time machine, because even after 18 years, Chene looks exactly the same as she did in the last scenes we filmed,” Bryton James (Devon) said about his character’s mother returning to the show. “And she was just as brilliant in front of the camera.
It was one of those amazing moments on stage when you truly don’t have to act, you just look at each other, and all of the history and love comes right to the surface. It was really a full-circle experience for myself and Devon that I couldn’t be more grateful for.”
