Tomorrow night on Monday Night RAW, WWE starts a history making tournament. Concluding later this month in Saudi Arabia, we have a tournament to crown the first ever WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Six names from RAW & six names from Smackdown make up the field – and the 12 men who have a chance to make history have been revealed.
12 Men Enter Field For WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Earlier today, the names would be revealed on social media. The men involved in this tournament are as follows.
- AJ Styles
- Seth Rollins
- Cody Rhodes
- Shinsuke Nakamura
- The Miz
- Sheamus
- Bobby Lashley
- Damien Priest
- Edge
- Finn Balor
- Rey Mysterio
- Austin Theory
This is a stacked field, with only four men having never won a World Championship in WWE. These are Cody Rhodes, Shinsuke Nakamura, Damien Priest & Austin Theory. The bracket will be split between Smackdown & RAW – with one from each brand set to meet in the finals at Night of Champions. With WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns on Smackdown Live, it’s likely a potential Smackdown winner would be moved to Monday Night RAW with this belt.
This Is Seth Rollins Tournament To Lose
A tournament with a strong field is a very strong start to a new championship in WWE. Many have already marked Seth Rollins as the most likely winner of the tournament, given his major victories over Logan Paul & Omos on recent PPV’s. The bracket has yet to be revealed, with that information likely saved for Monday Night RAW tomorrow night.
Another potential winner is Cody Rhodes, who is fresh off a main event victory over Brock Lesnar. It would be better in the long run for Rhodes to be the one to dethrone Roman Reigns, as that was his goal in ‘finishing the story’ since his return.
Having Rhodes win Money in the Bank and announce his challenge for Summerslam would likely be a more effective path to the top for the former AEW star.
