Since his WWE release, fans have seen the former Zack Ryder become one of the most buzzworthy names in professional wrestling. From AEW to Impact Wrestling to NWA to GCW, Matt Cardona has been proving his skills to the world – having won the GCW & NWA Heavyweight Championships.
While his end goal is to return to WWE, Cardona doesn’t want to just be a part of the roster – only wanting to return as a top star.
Matt Cardona Knows His Worth In Professional Wrestling
While speaking with the Heated Shenanigans podcast, Matt Cardona would be asked about a potential WWE return. Cardona was quoted saying the following – knowing his worth at this stage of his career.
“I’m not gonna come back to, you know, just be on the show. I would never go back just to be back. I’ve been on the roster. I was there. Very fortunate for my time there. Spent over a decade there. But I did the whole just the guy on the roster thing. I have no desire to do that again. If I’m gonna be there, I wanna matter. And I think I proved over the past three years that I’m more than capable of holding my own. And if I ever get that opportunity again, I think I’ll prove that to the world.”
Cardona’s partner Chelsea Green would return to WWE earlier this year during the 2023 Royal Rumble. He teased involvement in the 2023 WWE draft, posting an old graphic from when he was drafted to the Smackdown Live roster.
Currently, Cardona works alongside Steph DeLander in GCW, where they are set to face Joey Janela & Sawyer Wreck at GCW Lifestyle on May 26th, which is the day before WWE Night of Champions 2023 in Saudi Arabia.
