We are quickly closing in on the AEW return of CM Punk. The former 2x AEW World Champion has been out of action since September 2022, suffering a torn tricep during his victory over Jon Moxley in the main event of AEW All Out.
He would also suffer a suspension due to a backstage brawl with Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks – which drove a rift between Punk and his fellow top stars within AEW. However – he’s not hated by everyone backstage in AEW, and has a major supporter in Saraya.
Saraya made her AEW debut at Grand Slam 2022, quickly becoming a key figure in the AEW women’s division. She had a successful in-ring return at Full Gear 2022 defeating Britt Baker, and has since formed her own faction – The Outcasts. Having spent time with CM Punk in WWE, she knows him well – and holds him in high regard.
Saraya Thinks CM Punk Will Return – And That It’s Best For Business
While speaking with BBC Norfolk, Saraya was asked if she sees Punk making a return – and had the following to say.
“Absolutely, I’ve said this before with Punk. He’s always been an absolute sweetheart to me. He’s never once had any conflict whatsoever. He’s been very helpful and given a lot advice over the years. Since basically near the beginning of when I was at WWE, he was kind of on his way out, but I remember coming up on live event loops, and he was very nice. Going into WWE Backstage, always very nice. Coming into AEW, he had reached out to me, ‘If you need anything.’ He’s really awesome.
I want whatever is best for business. If people don’t like each other, you have to find that common ground in a professional setting. There are people I haven’t liked over the years, but I’ve never let my personal feelings get in the way of business, at the end of the day. If he was to come back, it would be great for AEW, it would be great for tickets too. Wembley is already doing awesome without anyone announced, but do you bring in the big dogs? Absolutely. We do have Chris Jericho, we do have the Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) and Kenny (Omega), and hopefully, we bring in Punk too.”
There are few that will deny Punk is great for business in AEW, with him drawing in fans for TV and PPV alike – and his absence is noticeable. Punk is set to be the key name with the upcoming Saturday night AEW Collision – with a soft brand split keeping him away from The Elite, until things properly cool down.
