Formerly an AEW Dark staple for the promotion’s women’s division hopefuls, Skye Blue has endeared herself to fans with her performances and energy. Now she sits as the contender to Toni Storm’s AEW Women’s World title. However, not everyone is a fan of Skye Blue as she told the story of being excommunicated from church for lighting a kid on fire.
AEW Women’s Division Star Skye Blue Excommunicated from Local Church Because She ‘Lit a Kid on Fire’
Skye dropped in a guest on Hey! (EW) with RJ City and was asked about the worst thing she has ever done. These stories tend to be comically embarrassing in nature and Skye did not disappoint. The story stems from her childhood when she was given a candle in church—probably during some community event or ceremony.
She was situated behind a boy she did not care for and saw opportunity. This is a kid—which aren’t known for reasonable thinking—and her nemesis was in front of her with his back turned. It was a situation where even her mother could see what might happen. As she told the story:
“I just didn’t like him. I didn’t like a lot of people back then. My mom was in the back row watching and she was like, “Don’t do it. Don’t do it, b***h. Don’t do it..’” (h/t: Wrestling Inc)
Now, giving a child a lit candle will always be an adventure that can go either way. Skye Blue mentioned that giving her the candle was the church’s first mistake. She put the candle to the kid’s robe and said that she laughed at the situation.
“It was one of those weird, white, creepy looking robes, so they’re very flammable, and God knows when’s the last time they washed them,’ she recalled. ‘He dropped [to put out the fire]….”
As for how the story is looked upon years later, Skye Blue said that her mother sees the humor in the event now but at the time she had to have been panicked—especially when she knew her child’s temperament and where this could go.
Skye didn’t go into if she was still excommunicated or what became of the kid she set on fire.
