CM Punk is returning to AEW TV tomorrow night for the debut episode of AEW Collision. With the show set in his hometown of Chicago, Punk is sure to get a heroes welcome from fans – but that might not be true for every crowd he appears infront of.
His actions following AEW All Out 2022 painted Punk in a poor light, as he verbally went after The Elite during the media scrum – leading to a backstage brawl. However, we now know exactly what was going through the mind of Punk that night.
CM Punk Was Hurt & Disappointed, Feels He Handled Things Poorly
During an interview with ESPN, Punk would detail what happened after that night – with AEW CEO Tony Khan being the first man he spoke to following the events. Punk had the following to say, noting that disappointment due to injury had him frustrated.
“The first thing I said to Tony when I sat down with him and spoke to him after it was, ‘Man, I’m really sorry I put you in that position. I apologize for the scrum. But when you’ve watched that scrum, you’re looking at a very, very frustrated guy who had told people. That’s not the first time he heard all that. It’s not the first time lawyers were told all that. And I was just looking for something to be done and nothing got done. So, if you want something done right, you got to do it yourself. And I just didn’t approach it in the right manner, but tension was high. I was very, very pissed. I pretty much knew that I had just injured myself again. I was hurt, and I was disappointed. Yeah, it’s very easy for me to say I regret that and I handled it the wrong way, 100%,”
During this same interview, Punk would note that he has reached out to The Elite about what happened that night – but has yet to speak to them. Samoa Joe has noted that Punk & The Elite are grown men, and need to hash their issues out eventually. You can read Joe’s comments here.
