When it comes to the issues that CM Punk had with The Elite – many point to Hangman Page as the start. During their feud over the AEW World Championship, Page would go off script – and call out Punk for being bad for the locker room.
This came from a belief that Punk tried to get his former friend Colt Cabana fired from AEW – with the Young Bucks being the ones to convince Khan to keep Cabana around. However, Punk feels this is far from the truth.
CM Punk Denies Trying To Get Anyone Fired From AEW, Including Colt Cabana
During his interview with ESPN, Punk would be asked about his relationship with Cabana. While there are no quotes directly about this published, ESPN staff writer Marc Raimondi would include the following information.
“Punk told ESPN that he has no relationship with Cabana but that he “never” asked Khan to take Cabana’s or anyone else’s job. But others in the company, including the Elite, believe Punk did indeed do that, per sources. Page was evidently confident enough to bring it up unexpectedly on television.”
Cabana and Punk used to be close friends, but legal issues following Punk’s exit from WWE and Cabana’s podcast ruined their relationship beyond repair.
Punk Felt He Had To Protect Himself Against Hangman Page
When asked about his issues with Hangman Page that stemmed from the belief Punk tried to force
”I proceed to have what I think is a garbage match because I’m trying to protect myself on stuff instead of actually just working and trying to put on the best performance I can. I’m keeping an eye out.
He chopped me in the mouth one time, and I’m just like, ‘OK, did you do that on purpose?’ You chip my tooth, and I’m like, ‘All right, should I give him a receipt?’ It changes the dynamic. It poisoned everything for me, and it made it all really, really ugly, and that was what set all of this off, and here we are over a year later and ain’t sh*t been done about it.”
We can expect Punk & Page to be kept away from each other going forward – without any demand from fans for any more matches between them due to their issues. Cabana is mainly seen as part of the Ring of Honor roster – which is set to tape before AEW Collision going forward, which could lead to Punk & Cabana crossing paths backstage.
Punk returns to the ring tomorrow on the debut episode of AEW Collision. Will you be watching his return match? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
