In 2020, EC3 departed the WWE system for the second time. His second departure came at a frustrating and thrilling time in his career.
Former WWE and IMPACT Wrestling Star EC3 Believes WWE RAW Superstar is a ‘Vince McMahon Guy’
After time in pre-NXT developmental territories, EC3 joined WWE as part of NXT’s third season when it was still presented as a competition show as the potential-filled Derrick Bateman. He ended up being released in 2013 and first found himself as a major star in TNA later that year.
A little over four years and two World Championships later and EC3—formerly Ethan Carter III—was back in WWE. It would be those two years that morphed EC3 into his present form and also planted the seeds for Control Your Narrative.
Following a largely uneventful WWE run featuring four 24/7 Championship reigns, EC3’s character was now more aggressive and confrontational. Now he rallied against sports entertainment creative and championed the talent—often to violent, extreme ends.
Actually, he would’ve made for a good ECW main eventer or the ultimate foil to Matt Cardona having elements of Shane Douglas and Taz as far as heaviness and intensity during promos. His CYN promotion spun out of his promos and ethos of talent booking their own storylines. It managed to get some attention and sign some young talent up.
One of those talents was WWE RAW superstar, the currently injured former WWE Universe Champion Braun Strowman. At the time, Strowman has been released from WWE since June 2021. He wrestled at the second Control Your Narrative show, defeating EC3 and seemed to be on board with CYN as it went through ROH and NWA.
While speaking with Vince Russo and Dr. Chris Featherstone, EC3 discussed Strowman’s mentality since returning to WWE. He said that Strowman was in a better place than he was before and back to doing what he wants. When asked if Braun Strowman was a Vince McMahon guy or a Triple H guy EC3 said:
“Vince [McMahon], probably, but Vince was in charge when he got released, so…He didn’t have a big NXT run because he got called up so early.” (h/t: Sportskeeda)
