We would recently see the conclusion of the latest Best of the Super Juniors tournament in New Japan Pro Wrestling. Master Wato met Los Ingobernables De Japon (L.I.J) member Titan in the finals, and after a thrilling match – was able to come out the winner of the prestigious tournament.
While winning the tournament alone is a career building accomplishment – it also comes with a shot at the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. Currently held by L.I.J member Hiromu Takahashi, Master Wato feels he’s finally ready to find a weakness in the ace of the Junior Heavyweight division.
Master Wato Intends To Find A Weakness In Hiromu Takahashi
During an interview with NJPW1972.com ahead of Dominion on June 4th, Master Wato would state that defeating Hiromu might be bigger to him than winning the tournament. He had the following to say.
“In my mind, the bigger deal is beating Hiromu. In 2017, just before I went on excursion, I teamed with Hiroshi Tanahashi against Naito and Hiromu. After the match, Hiromu had beaten me and came toward me. Without thinking, I remember grabbing his hair. Like my hand moved by itself, it was crazy. I’ll never forget that feeling, in the moment of ‘I can’t just let this guy beat me’. That’s when I felt I had to be a junior heavyweight. He’s incredibly talented, and he doesn’t really have a weakness. That’s a strength in itself. But I think where I am now in my career, I’m at a point where I can find a weakness in him. That’s the plan in Osaka.”
Wato has had two singles meetings with Hiromu, and currently holds a 0-2 record. Both matches took place in Best of the Super Juniors tournaments, taking place in 2020 & 2021.
They shared the ring at Wrestle Kingdom 17 in a Fatal Four Way match, with Hiromu taking the win that night. Wato has improved greatly since their last singles meeting, and many expect this match to steal the show tomorrow.
Will Wato finally defeat Hiromu tomorrow and win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
