It has been a while since fans got to see CM Punk in the ring. Suffering a torn tricep in the main event of AEW All Out 2023 and a suspension for a backstage brawl with The Elite – Punk was pulled from TV until now.
This Saturday we will see the debut of AEW Collision, with a major match in the form of CM Punk & FTR vs. Bullet Club Gold & Samoa Joe. AEW CEO Tony Khan is especially excited – and always intended for Punk to return to the ring.
Tony Khan Always Wanted CM Punk The Return To The Ring
While appearing on Busted Open Radio, Tony Khan would express excitement about the return of CM Punk – having always wanted to ensure this would happen.
“For me, I always wanted to get CM Punk back in the ring and I’m really excited that it’s finally happening tomorrow night. I always wanted to make that happen and I’m glad it’s happening.”
During Punk’s absence from TV, it was up in the air on if he would return to the ring. His issues with The Elite would draw a line in the sand with many in the locker room. Punk’s behavior following AEW All Out 2023 was a black mark on the company, with many feeling he let the company down in a huge way. Despite this, Punk remains a big draw for AEW – and AEW is trusting him to launch AEW Collision.
Khan Wants To Bring Saturday Night Wrestling Back
When asked about the return of Punk – Khan had the following to say.
“It’s going to be really great to have CM Punk back in Chicago and back in AEW. He’s a huge star and it’s going to be a really exciting night for the fans. We’re trying to build a tradition on Saturday night and bring Saturday night wrestling back. I think CM Punk will be a huge part of that.”
