In a surprise to no one, Vince McMahon has reportedly been dipping his fingers into WWE Creative remotely with rewrites and suggestions and the product has had issues because of it.
One of those came from last week’s Smackdown (June 23) where the show just didn’t click. There was an effort, but it felt not connected, all over the place, and plain out boring until the very end.
Triple H and Nick Kahn Upset over Vince McMahon’s Creative Interference
There were plenty of run ins and other gimmicks that were Vince trademarks before he stepped aside amid allegations over the summer.
Since then, Triple H has done a great job in making the product watchable from a storyline perspective rather than aimless gimmick endings, constant run ins, and spot fests.
The wrestlers were allowed to tell their stories in the ring for the first time in a while. Now that’s changing back to the way it was.
Trying to stay the course
It was reported that Triple H and Nick Kahn weren’t happy with how Smackdown went and planned a meeting to try to curb Vince’s meddling since he previously said he wouldn’t get into that aspect of the company again.
Of course, like anything else over the years pretty much everyone knew it was only a matter of time until he changed his mind.
We were hoping merging with Endeavor meant Vince had bosses that were holding him accountable following the disastrous Raw After WrestleMania, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.
At least, not yet.
If this past Raw (June 26) is any indication, his meddling in creative will only increase as the merger date between the two companies draws nearer, but why?
For the ego
It’s possible Vince honestly believes he knows what’s best for the company despite ignoring fan outcry for years. It’s been well documented that the shows are booked for his pleasure and not the fans.
Triple H was booking for the fans through a wrestling fan’s perspective.
In short, Vince may not like the current product since it’s wrestling based instead of entertainment based.
To be fair, Vince is running things in the WWE even when they merge with Endeavor and he may be making his move to cement his role in the company going forward.
But this feels more like an ego thing. He ran every detail for years and was talked into stepping aside, and now he wants to get back into the saddle.
