While there’s anxiety in AEW over the brand split and potential road schedule, over in WWE, there appears to be a dip in locker room morale as a result of Vince McMahon’s continued involvement in creative.
Vince McMahon Has Reportedly Caused a ‘Huge Negative Shift’ in Morale with His Involvement in WWE Creative
It had been speculated for some time as to whether Vince McMahon was actually back and calling the shots in creative. After all, the rumors came at an interesting time of change where the company seemed to be headed up by a younger team of executives. In addition, most of those executives had been involved with the product or business operations in WWE for years.
It was still very much in-house, there were some rising new faces, surprise returns, scandals, awkwardness, a resignation, and a concerning period of being on the market. Now, we have a new sports entertainment merger of WWE and UFC and McMahon was instrumental in getting it done.
While the word before was that he wouldn’t have much involvement in creative and that it was Triple H’s job, after you get the company sold in a very juicy purchase—who’s going to object you returning to creative? In Vince’s case, his period over creative was significant in the formation of the WWE brand from pro wrestling to sports entertainment’s version of Marvel or Disney.
Despite Triple H’s run in creative reestablishing some goodwill from critical fans and wrapping up McMahon-era storylines, Vince’s decades-long run is more associated with what WWE is to the greater public.
So, here we are with McMahon dipping his fingers into creative’s pots more blatantly that before and that seems to have created a downturn in morale as explained by Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, McMahon has made several alterations remotely. Adding to this is PW Insider’s Mike Johnson who reports that there has been a “huge negative shift in morale” starting with the WrestleMania aftermath episode of WWE RAW.
Do you see Vince McMahon taking total control of creative from Triple H? Or do you see his involvement as not interfering with The Game’s plans? Share your thoughts on this in the comments!
