WWE’s Sonya Deville Still In “Fight Or Flight” Mode Following 2020 Kidnapping Attempt

Being a part of the WWE roster puts you in front of millions of fans – being the most popular professional wrestling company in the world today. While this exposes wrestlers to many amazing people, there can be a darker side to it all.

We saw a glimpse of this in 2020, when Sonya Deville was almost the victim of a kidnapping. While she was able to make it out unharmed physically, and despite the perpetrator being behind bars – Deville is still dealing with the trauma from this event.

Sonya Deville Is Still In Fight Or Flight Mode

While speaking on Maria Menounos’ podcast, Deville would recall the events – and how she’s feeling nearly three years removed from the incident.

“There’s just so many layers to it. First of course, it’s fight or flight, and you’re just in the situation, and you deal with the situation, and that night after the incident, I thought I was gonna go back to the house and sleep there because I was stubborn and I was in shock, and I didn’t know what was going on. I didn’t know left from right at that point. Then, the sun goes down, and I’m uncontrollably shaking, and I’m in a hotel room under an alias name because I’m so paranoid that even though he’s arrested, he’s somehow gonna find me, and I have the dresser pushed up against the door.

I made Mandy slide the dresser in front of the door on the fifteenth floor of this high rise, and paranoia starts to set in. It’s fight or flight, and then it’s shock, and I went into an autopilot of, ‘What needs to be done? What do we have to do?’ I don’t feel first. I do first, and then I feel later. You do what has to be done, and then you feel later, so I didn’t feel the full effect for what had happened for months. I was in full-blown fight-or-flight, I was living in fight-or-flight mode for months, maybe years,”

Deville took time off from WWE following this incident, but has returned. She spent time as an on-screen authority figure, and is now part of a tag team with Chelsea Green.

The attempted kidnapper got a 15 year sentence after pleading guilty to the charges of attempted kidnapping, aggravated stalking, and armed burglary.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
