It’s hard to take down Orange Cassidy as AEW International Champion, but he’s never faced someone like Lance Archer. Cassidy has been defending at a rapid rate, and his body has taken the toll – making every defense harder.
Now put him against a man known as The Murderhawk Monster, who has torn the likes of Jon Moxley down – and Cassidy is facing his biggest challenge to date. Archer is ready to fight in AEW as well, and having a belt will drive challengers to him.
Orange Cassidy Is Physically Outmatched By Lance Archer
With Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts in his corner, Archer was motivated to tear Cassidy down. Cassidy rushed but was shoved aside. Archer would be run into the corner and took some quick kicks from Cassidy, with Archer shrugging them off before setting up Blackout early.
Cassidy was able to fight free, but took the rising knee strike. Blackout was attempted again, but Cassidy got a sleeper hold in until he was thrown off. Archer hit a big shoulder tackle, sending Cassidy to the floor.
Cassidy would roll across the ring as Archer approached, getting in the face of Jake Roberts. Archer would catch a flying Cassidy into a powerbomb, but whipped him into the barricade instead. Losing control, Archer would attack security at ringside – and Cassidy responded with a set of dropkicks.
Cassidy would use the security staff himself, piling them onto Archer and trying for a count out. Instead, Archer shoved Cassidy into the barricade, but both men made the ring at nine. Archer would whip Cassidy across the ring into the corner, before promising to make Cassidy live up to his ‘Freshly Squeezed’ nickname.
Fighting Hard, And Fighting Smart
Cassidy would take some running back elbows, before dodging a body splash in the corner. Heading up top, Cassidy tried for a diving DDT but was caught in a release suplex. Stundog Millionaire was blocked, and Archer tried for the chokeslam.
Cassidy would avoid this before almost ending up in Blackout. He’d slip free and hit the Chop Block, cutting Archer down to size. A kick to the jaw would stun Archer, and a superkick would follow before Archer hit the Black Hole Slam for a near fall.
Cassidy would roll to the floor, and Roberts would look for the DDT – but was stopped by Archer. This would save Archer from a DQ, but Cassidy would hit the basement dropkick, lock eyed with Roberts and hit the DDT. Archer barely stayed down for a second, and would battle Cassidy on the apron.
Cassidy would play smart, keeping Archer on the apron before sending him down to the floor at nine and jumped into the ring – escaping with his reign intact. Archer was furious, but a win is a win – and for today, Cassidy remains champion.
The Acclaimed Are At Battle Of The Belts VII
The Acclaimed have made their place on Saturday Nights since the launch of AEW Collision – because AEW stands for Acclaimed Every Weekend. They’d be welcomed to the ring by Tony Schiavone, with Billy Gunn saying that Calgary loves The Acclaimed – and the feeling is mutual.
Max Caster would call out QTV and promised to whoop their ass next Friday during the Royal Rampage match. Bowens would have another announcement, saying that next Saturday on Collision in his hometown – they get their rematch with House of Black for the AEW World Trios Championships. House Of Black have a brewing issue with Andrade El Idolo as well – which could come into play.
