Welcome to TheOvertimers live coverage of AEW Collision for July 29th, 2023. With a major title bout set for the main event, a ladder match, and more – this is sure to be another great night of AEW action.
Starting the show, Darby Allin would announce that he’s frustrated, and doesn’t care if it’s Swerve Strickland, AR Fox or Ricky Starks – he is coming to that ring tonight and is going to fight whoever follows. After all, Saturday Night’s Alright Fighting.
Andrade El Idolo wants his mask back, after it was stolen by House of Black. Malakai Black feels that Andrade is hiding behind this mask, with it holding him back from his true potential in All Elite Wrestling.
Andrade feels differently, as that mask is his families legacy, a sacred object in the world of Lucha Libre. The mask will hang high above the ring ready to be grabbed by the aid of a ladder. Should Matthews grab it, he intends to set it on fire infront of Andrade – making this a key match in the career of Andrade El Idolo.
Buddy Matthews Gets Early Shoulder Issues Against Andrade El Idolo
When Matthews last shared a ring with Andrade, had taped out on the debut episode of AEW Collision – starting this whole feud. Julia Hart would distract Andrade as the match began, but Matthews was unable to catch him with the jumping knee. Chops would be exchanged before Matthews was sent to the floor with a lariat.
Andrade would follow before scaling the ladder and jumping off with a picture perfect moonsault – landing right on Matthews despite a blind launch.
Ladders would be placed in the ring, before Matthews was thrown head first into one set up in the corner. Matthews would try to fight back into the match, only to be sent into the ladder with a hip toss.
Andrade got a bit bloodthirsty, placing a ladder over the head of Matthews before trying for the running knee strike. While blocking this, Matthews would suffer a dislocated shoulder, and got help from Doc Sampson to put it back in place before rushing into the ring. Andrade was scaling the ladder, but was pulled off the ladder and thrown into the corner with a powerbomb.
A ladder was set up in the corner by Matthews, before a hard Irish Whip into the corner would send Andrade into said ladder, with the impact sending him over the top rope and to the floor.
Matthews would look to use a ladder to keep Andrade on the floor, sliding one through the ropes and stomping onto it – sending it right into the face.
Andrade Fights Smart To Regain His Honor
Matthews would drag Andrade to the other side of the ring, and set up a ladder bridge between the ring apron and announce table.
Andrade avoided a powerbomb through the ladder and tried for a Death Valley Driver, losing grasp of Matthews but kept fighting for control. Matthews would set up on the apron for a spear, but caught Andrade into a DDT.
A table was brought into the ring, and Andrade was slammed into it head first. Matthews would climb the ladder, but was stopped at the top as Andrade titled the ladder back.
Andrade would hit the spinning back elbow, and set up Matthews on a ladder bridge between the ring ropes and an even taller ladder. He would end up welcoming Matthews to the top for a Sunset Flip Powerbomb onto the ladder bridge.
Andrade would start the climb in the middle of the ring, with Matthews recovering and pulling Andrade down into a knee strike. Julia Hart would get a set of handcuffs, and Andrade would be chained to the ring post – unable to climb a ladder or even protect himself completely.
Hart teased Andrade with the key as Matthews grabbed a chair, only for it to be kicked into his face – with Andrade getting the keys.
Andrade would use the cuffs on Matthews, throwing the key into the crowd – and climbing the ladder. Hart tried to stop Andrade as Matthews used bolt cutters to get free, before Hart was shoved off the ladder, into Matthews – who crashed through the table. Andrade would retrieve his mask, and got a much needed win against House of Black.
