MJF is the AEW World Heavyweight Champion – and has been living up to what that belt means lately. Having completed two PPV title defences recently and went to a time limit draw with Adam Cole – MJF has almost got a years worth of matches in.
His usual lax schedule has been disrupted by Cole taking jabs at his ego, and tonight he will make his in-ring debut on AEW Collision. Hamilton’s own Kip Morst would be his opponent – and MJF would start fast.
Ethan Page Puts MJF Into A Corner
A forearm in the corner and The Heatseeker would have this match already won, but MJF let the pin go before applying the LeBell Lock. MJF doesn’t get paid by the hour, but seeing as Hamilton is full of losers – he will face anyone from this town and put the championship on the line. Hitting the ring was Ethan Page, who used to work for MJF.
Page would slap the microphone out of MJF’s hand, and said that he is ready to show everyone in the back who doubts his skills. MJF would try to claim Page isn’t on his level, and that’s true – because Page is better than MJF, as a person and a wrestler. Page puts in extra work that MJF wouldn’t dream of doing.
AEW Has A Fighting Champion
The match would be made official, and Page had a chance to become the AEW World Champion. MJF would run at Page, but was stomped into the corner after Page would side step. An early attempt at Ego’s Edge was countered, and MJF would hit the chop block to cut Page down before applying a kneebar.
Page would fight free and be caught in the corner with a superkick before an Alabama Slam. MJF would put Page in a Single Leg Boston Crab, a move perfected by Canada’s own Lance Storm – and despite the best efforts of Page, he’d need to use the ropes to break the submission up.
Page would have his knee attacked by MJF, but kept fighting to hit a cutter. MJF would be first to his feet, and would take a series of punches to the face before being dropped with a hurricanrana. Iconoclasm out of the corner was followed up a pop up powerslam, getting Page a near fall.
Page would dodge another chop block attempt before hitting a Twist Of Fate. Now under the tutelage of Matt Hardy, he’s perfected the move, and would try for a Swanton Bomb – but MJF would hit the ropes to rock the footing of Page. MJF had a superplex in mind, but Page would counter and hit a Powerslam off the top rope, but jammed his knee as he hit the mat.
A tired cover from Page would follow, but MJF would get his foot on the bottom rope. Ego’s Edge was planned, but the knee would give out – saving MJF. Page was sent to the apron and MJF would hit a Dragon Screw Leg Whip through the ropes before Heatseeker for the finish.
