It’s not hard to get a title shot against Orange Cassidy, and Darby Allin used that knowledge to get his trainer AR Fox a shot tonight. A well travelled veteran, Fox has been impressive since joining the AEW roster – and tonight has a chance to claim gold.
However, it’s been impossible for anyone to stop Cassidy during his current reign – even with damage quickly adding up. Fox will need to find a way to keep Cassidy down, and needs to find it fast.
Prior to this match, we’d hear from Allin who explained why Fox is so important to him. In addition to being the man who trained him, Fox offered to let Allin live with him upon learning Allin was sleeping in his car. Without AR Fox, there is no Darby Allin – and no one deserves to be champion more than Fox.
Orange Cassidy Enters Defense #27
Fox & Cassidy would stare each other down as the match began, with Fox offering a handshake and Cassidy accepting in his lazy style.
Cassidy would shove Fox into the ropes, but allowed the clean break before ending up in a rear waist lock. Fox would move into a wrist lock, and Cassidy went down to the mat and used his sloth style to trick Fox into letting him free.
Cassidy would be taken back down to the mat and locked in a bodyscissor hold – and would slip free by putting his hands in his pockets.
Fox would block the dropkick into a Jackknife cover, getting a two count before trying for a cutter. Cassidy would avoid this, shoving Fox off and retreating to the floor – only for Fox to follow with a springboard moonsault.
Fox would avoid a Tornado DDT and hit the Twisting Brainbuster for a near fall. Cassidy would again head to the floor to catch a breath, with Fox following and hitting a pump kick.
Fox would be sat in a chair and had his foot swung into the steel barricade, but back in the ring would catch Cassidy going for the Orange Punch and nail the cutter for a two count.
Cassidy was thrown into the corner for a lariat before a slingshot dropkick, getting a one count for Fox. They’d trade kicks to the jaw, with Fox having more left in the tank.
Both men jumped for neckbreakers, catching each other at the same time. Cassidy was sent to the floor, and Fox dove over the top rope with a senton bomb, before rolling Cassidy into the ring and diving off the top rope.
AR Fox Snaps After Cassidy Gets The Win, Jon Moxley Strikes
Cassidy was set up on the ropes for the Springboard Spanish Fly, but would block before hitting the DDT and Beach Break. Fox was able to kick out, and Cassidy would head to the middle rope only to be caught with the Spanish Fly. Cassidy would roll away from a potential 450 Splash – heading to the apron where Fox would hit the Rolling Thunder.
Fox would notice Cassidy crawling through the ropes and hit the draping DDT before trying for the 450 Splash. Cassidy would avoid his and Fox landed awkward on his foot.
Fox would be caught with the Mouse Trap, and Cassidy once again retained. It’s 27 defences now, and Fox would be handed a pair of glasses from Cassidy after the bell.
Fox would break them, punching Cassidy in the jaw shortly after. Allin would confront Fox after this, saying this was embarrassing to see.
His frustrations got the better of him, but Cassidy remains champion. Cassidy was not done however, as Jon Moxley hit the ring with the King Kong Lariat and Death Rider – before stomping off.
