At WWE’s Money in the Bank, Jey Usos pinned Roman Reigns in their tag team match and it marked the first time Reigns had been pinned since Baron Corbin 1294 days earlier.
It’s an accomplishment that put him among the best despite the asterisk many fans will want due to him needing near constant help to keep winning over the last few months.
But given pro wrestling is scripted that argument doesn’t hold a lot of weight, and the same can be said for the person whose record Reigns didn’t break at 1323 days, Brock Lesnar.
Yep, thanks to the wrestling page @memes.unleashed, which does appear to be slanted toward Lesnar, shared the tidbit and a few commentators backed up the claim.
One in particular broke down his steak and matches that began following his loss to Triple H at WrestleMania and ended when Bill Goldberg pinned him at SummerSlam.
However we look at both of their accomplishments they’re both highly impressive and it shows how much the company believed in them and how it worked to maintain their dominance.
Storylines matter
The big difference, like we mentioned above, is that Reigns needed help a good amount of the time while Lesnar didn’t, but that’s not taking away from them.
Reigns relying on help so often can be attributed to the Bloodline storyline and this is what’s often missing in pro wrestling anymore.
It’s often easy to skip over some of the finer points because we’re so wrapped up in the character or what’s happening, but Reigns’ downfall is tied directly to his needing help and that give it an edge in many ways.
He came to rely on the Usos and Solo Sikoa to do his dirty work for him and he could more or less take it easy and not stress as much over it.
Squeezing the life out of them
Of course, this led to Reigns thinking he’s more important than the rest and he used them and now that he’s squeezed the life and loyalty out of them, and since he treated them like dogs, like any beaten dog the Usos turned on him.
Story telling wise it’s perfect and makes sense as it led to what we’re seeing now.
But, along the way there were numerous matches that weren’t needed and everyone new the outcome and those were Reigns defending against Lesnar. Especially when the matches became no disqualification or something like that.
It doesn’t take away from how awesome both of these accomplishments are from a story telling aspect.
