WWE fans are currently watching history play out in the forms of Roman Reigns epic reign as WWE Universal Champion. Having recently passed 1000 days, The Tribal Chief has been dominant – turning aside all challengers.
However, fans would finally see a crack in his armour – when at Money in the Bank 2023, he would be pinned for the first time since 2019.
This would come when he faced The Usos in tag team action, with Jey Uso being the one to finally put him down. Now, fans are wondering if Jey will be the one to end this reign – and two recent rivals think this would be a perfect way to end this reign.
Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens Believe The Usos Should End Roman Reigns Time As Champion
At WrestleMania 39, The Usos shared the ring with Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn – losing the WWE Tag Team Championships to the Canadian duo.
However, they won the respect of Zayn & Owens – who feel either of the brothers would make for a fitting end to Reigns dominant reign, and make excellent World Champions. Kevin Owens had the following to say to Inside The Ropes about them ending the reign.
“Either Jey or Jimmy — I think both those guys deserve the world, and both those guys would be fantastic Universal World Champions. I think they’d be a shoo-in for that spot, they’d be great at it, and honestly, with the way everything has progressed, and the new heights they’ve reached, it certainly wouldn’t look out of place.”
Sami Zayn would agree with Owens – and was quoted saying the following.
“I think from a character and story perspective, it does make sense to see Jimmy or Jey do it. I think a lot of characters have come along throughout the last three years who could have been a very fitting ending. I think I was one, Cody was one, and even Drew to a certain extent. There have been a couple of moments — even Kevin at points could have been the bow on the story, the culmination of this whole thing. But, it does seem at this point after everything else, that Jimmy or Jey would be the most fitting.”
Cody Rhodes Remains The Front Runner – With WrestleMania 40 A Potential Date
Currently, it’s planned for Cody Rhodes to once again meet Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania, with that being a match set for WrestleMania 40.
Rhodes remains the front runner to end this reign, feeling it’s crucial to “finish the story” started by his father Dusty Rhodes. In addition to holding the Universal Championship, Reigns holds the WWE Championship – which has the lineage dating back to Bruno Sammartino.
WWE also has a tendency to end WrestleMania events ending in 0 with a big moment for fans. WrestleMania 10 saw Bret Hart take down Yokozuna, WrestleMania 20 saw then fan favourite Chris Benoit toppled Michaels & Triple H and celebrate with Eddie Guerrero, and WrestleMania 30 saw the Miracle On Bourbon Street with Daniel Bryan winning the WWE Championship.
