Toni Storm had some harsh words for former AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida – saying her time as champion is something everyone would rather just forget.
Storm views this as a dark period for the women’s division, taking place during the height of the pandemic era, and when AEW had no members of The Outcasts. Tonight, she will defend the championship against Shida, who seeks to become a two time champion – and bring the belt away from the clutches of The Outcasts.
Hikaru Shida Came Ready To Overcome The Numbers Edge
Storm would have Ruby Soho in her corner for the match – and a can of green spray paint on hand as well. Shida remained laser focused on the champion however, and was ready to fight. Storm would be beaten to the ropes with a series of forearm smashes, before retreating out to the floor to get council from The Outcasts at ringside.
Shida would not follow, knowing to stick in the ring – and when Storm returned, she’d be run down with a shoulder tackle. Storm would be put in the Camel Clutch on the mat, before some stiff overhand punches. Shida would set up Storm on the apron for the running knee lift, and would stare down Saraya & Soho before hitting the strike.
Storm would be whipped into the barricade, and Shida would climb onto a chair for some punches – with Storm tripping her up. Landing throat first onto the barricade, Shida was stunned – and Storm pulled her into the ring to try to follow up. Instead, Shida hit a set of suplexes on Storm, but was unable to follow up with a pinfall.
Shida would be set up on the apron and sent to the floor with a running hip attack. Storm would distract the referee while Shida was beat down by The Outcasts, before driving Shida into the barricade herself. Back in the ring, Shida was able to kick out – but was choked on the bottom rope.
Storm would remain aggressive against Shida in the ring, stomping on the shair and yanking back until the referee forced a break. Shida would be whipped to the mat by her hair, before a Full Nelson was applied by Storm. Sapped of her strength by the hold, Shida was set up in the corner for the hip attack.
Toni Storm Gets Outplayed By Shida
Shida was able to block Storm and hit a German Suplex, before the Enziguri and running knee strikes. Storm was hit with some punches in the corner, Shida going well past ten and kicking Storm to the middle of the ring for the missile dropkick.
Meteora off the top rope would follow, with Shida crashing down on Storm for the near fall. Storm would be set up on the top rope for a superplex, but Saraya distracted the referee while Soho stopped Soho. A Tornado DDT would land, before the running hip attack and snap DDT got Storm a near fall.
Shida would hit a knee strike and Falcon Arrow – but was unable to get the pinfall. Saraya would slide the kendo stick into the ring, baiting Shida into a DQ. She’d instead whack Soho, but when she handed the stick away, she got sprayed in the eyes and hit with the Storm Zero – but still kicked out.
Another piledriver was blocked into a deep pinfall – and Hikaru Shida is now a two time AEW Women’s World Champion. She’d get a big celebration, and now gets a chance to reign as champion infront of AEW fans. Shida is an AEW original, and ending the 200th episode as champion is huge for her.
