The world of professional wrestling is in mourning after the sudden passing of former WWE Champion Bray Wyatt. Having passed away at just 36 years old, it was a shock to everyone.
At the time, we simply knew it was related to a heart issue – but we now have further information to share regarding the circumstances of his death.
Bray Wyatt Had A Weak Heart After Complications With COVID
Through law enforcement records first acquired by TMZ, we learned the following information. Bray Wyatt (real name Windham Rotunda) had told his girlfriend he was going to take a nap Thursday.
She would become concerned when she heard his alarm going off about an hour later without being stopped. Windham would be discovered in his bed, not breathing, and was turning blue. 911 was called immediately, and CPR was attempted. Windham was later pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Authorities who spoke with Windham’s immediate family members who said he had COVID in March 2023 and developed heart complications.
These would cause him to have a “weak lower part of his heart.” One week before he died, Windham was hospitalised for a heart issue. Windham had a follow-up appointment with doctors the morning he died and was advised to wear an external heart defibrillator — a device designed to treat people experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.
It’s not known if the device would have been able to prevent this death, though investigators have determined Windham was not wearing the defibrillator at the time of his death – as they later located it inside his vehicle parked in the driveway.
Losing A Universally Loved Figure
Given the heart issue that Wyatt had prior to his death, it seems likely his time in the ring as an active wrestler was done. Wyatt was planning to return to WWE programming, but we can now rightfully assume he would have been in a more manager based role – something his character would have suited perfectly.
This is one of the more tragic deaths in recent memory within the world of professional wrestling. The outcry of love and respect for Wyatt shows just what type of man he was behind the scenes.
Wyatt was universally loved and respected, and not only for his dedication to professional wrestling – but to being a good friend to all.
