With the WGA-SAG strike ongoing, there have been reports that new writers have taken over writing for “General Hospital” Spoilers and everything since July 25 is reportedly their material.
While it’s been great they’ve revisited storylines that were left dead or forgotten, much to fans’ enjoyment, they also missed a huge opportunity.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Writers are Failing Carly Spencer
Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) is a lightening rod of controversy since she doesn’t wait to know what going on to form her opinions and goes on the attack first.
It was a failing of hers she saw come back when she was confronting by Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) and Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell)’s hatred for Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) was thrown in her face.
Both of them ignored what happened when there was a power vacuum in Port Charles when Sonny was in Nixon Falls, claiming they disagreed that would happen if he went to prison after it did happen.
That ignorance and blind hatred opened Carly’s eyes to what she was helping to foster in her cult, and her redemption continued with the SEC investigation and her losing everything and Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) going to prison for her.
She was ready and willing to start rebuilding, and that’s when the new writers came in.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Missed opportunity
It’s obvious the new writers prefer the old, combative Carly that just stirs things up and that’s that since they completely wiped away the humbling experience Carly endured and was given a place of business to save her.
While it’s been reported that was always in the plan, her shift in attitude shouldn’t have been.
She’s not the queen bee, but she’s acting like it by attacking Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) when she came to thank Carly and after Carly worked hard to be kinder and gentler toward her.
Now she’s going to go after Ava Jerome (Muara West), demanding to know what’s happening between her and Sonny.
And this is where taking the easy and lazy way out hurt the character. This was the writer’s chance to show how resourceful Carly can be by developing an idea or looking to buy a business that wasn’t gifted to her for $1.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Reinvention and redemption would’ve been great to see
She could’ve worked to find investors and partners to get things started, and she could’ve carved her own path instead of relying on the money and power her last two husbands had.
She could’ve made a name for herself and become an icon and fully her own woman, but now that drama and struggles that would’ve helped her grow even further were wiped away to return her to her hypocrite queen status.
“General Hospital” Spoilers were looking forward to seeing how her redemption story played out, but now we’ll never know.
Maybe we’re getting ahead of ourselves and there’s a huge fall waiting for her that she’ll have to work her way out of.
What do you think? Did the writers miss a golden opportunity by resetting Carly? Let us know in the comments below and check back with “General Hospital” Spoilers for the latest updates, spoilers, and speculation.
