WWE has been home to some of the greatest tag teams in the history of professional wrestling, but they don’t always last. A common trope for WWE is breaking up established teams for shock value, and we saw this with The Usos at Summerslam 2023.
Jimmy Uso would cost Jey Uso the main event, choosing to side with Roman Reigns. This choice has gotten backlash from wrestling fans, and one man knows this situation first hand, that being Matt Hardy.
Matt Hardy Feels Splitting The Usos Was A Mistake
While Hardy works for All Elite Wrestling at this point, alongside his brother Jeff Hardy – he’s been a top tag team act in WWE for many years.
This did come with some splits and feuds however, most notably seeing these brothers fight at WrestleMania 25. During the Extreme Life Of Matt Hardy podcast, he would discuss the split of The Usos.
“I would rather not see Jimmy turn on Jey in the big scheme of things. I love the fact that the Usos have been such an important part of the story.
I love the fact that they had each other’s back. But I wouldn’t have wanted to split up the Usos because I think they’re a great tag team.
I would have rather seen Jimmy return to it and still have Jey’s back in some way. I don’t know where I would have taken the angle.
I haven’t really thought about that. I try to sit back and enjoy it, like watching just as a spectator, as a viewer of the product, but I wasn’t crazy about the idea of Jimmy betraying Jey and joining back up with Roman.”
WWE Needs To Make Fans Want Jey Uso vs. Jimmy Uso
A feud between Jimmy & Jey Uso will atleast allow the brothers to explore new grounds. Since 2011, they’ve been a steady team in WWE – and have done everything to be done as a tag team.
While the split might have been extremely abrupt to fans – it’s likely something that has been pitched by The Uso’s themselves.
We’ve seen Jey Uso show his skills as a singles wrestler, but Jimmy remains untested in big singles matches. Payback is a likely spot for a Jey vs. Jimmy match, and with Reigns suffering an injury during Summerslam – this feud will likely be the focus of The Bloodline throughout the fall.
