Recently, fans of All Elite Wrestling got to see yet another legend debut. Rob Van Dam would show up to challenge the new FTW Champion Jack Perry, standing up for his longtime rival Jerry Lynn.
His debut and the following match both received positive reviews from fans and critics, and the performance of RVD has fans asking if they can expect more from him in AEW. However, we will simply have to wait and see what comes next.
RVD Asks Fans To Wait And See About His AEW Future
While speaking to Dominic DeAngelo of Inside The Ropes for his 1 Of A Kind podcast – RVD would reveal he’s spoken with Tony Khan about his future in AEW. This interview is set to be fully released on August 14th, but the preview clip had the following being said by RVD.
“Well, was it talked about between me and Tony Khan about me coming back? Yeah. The details of that conversation? We’ll have to wait and see.”
This confirms that RVD has not signed a contract with AEW before his initial debut. He was simply brought in as a guest star, someone to help establish FTW Champion Jack Perry’s new heel persona.
However, RVD arguably looked better than Perry in their hardcore rules match, with fans reacting loudly to all of his signature moves.
Another Legend On The AEW Roster Would Be Welcome
Generally speaking, AEW has done well by their legends – displaying them in roles that suit their strengths. The best example is Sting, who has shown up in big tag team and trios matches – and is booked for the biggest show in AEW history, which will see him wrestle Swerve Strickland & AR Fox. Others like Arn Anderson & Jake Roberts have found fitting roles as managers.
RVD has greatly reduced his ring time in recent years, only working a handful of matches each year. However, his natural charisma makes him a welcome presence on TV even if he’s not in the ring for a match.
AEW could easily use him for big events, and RVD is the type of wrestler who can work with just about any opponent – making him perfect for elevating younger names on the roster.
