Saraya would walk away from AEW All In London 2023 as the AEW Women’s World Champion – and it’s time for her to do the work of a champion.
She made her debut at AEW Grand Slam 2022, making it fitting that she makes her first defence next week at Grand Slam 2023. To decide her challenger we have a Fatal Four Way match of former champions, containing Britt Baker, Hikaru Shida, Nyla Rose & Toni Storm.
Toni Storm Overcomes Three Former Champions To Earn Title Shot At AEW Grand Slam
Storm would come to the ring to The Outcasts theme song, despite having turned her back on the group at AEW All Out. As the match began, Storm would flee the ring – allowing Shida & Baker to go after Rose.
A double lariat from Rose dropped her opponents, before Storm came into the ring to taunt. Baker & Shida would regain control, stomping Storm into the corner and sending Rose to the floor.
Shida would shove Storm to the floor, before a crossbody onto all three opponents. Back in the ring, Storm would hit some stiff strikes to corner Baker before Rose would throw her into the corner for a splash. This brief alliance would end as Rose hit a forearm to the face of Storm, before they’d go back to attacking Shida & Baker.
Rose would stomp on the toes of Storm, before hitting a hard forearm to the face of Shida. Baker would take the next blow from The Native Beast, before a German Suplex from Storm.
Rose took the running hip attack in the corner, before Shida hit the brainbuster on Storm. Shida & Baker would be reluctant to fight, only to take a set of chop blocks.
Rose would hit the Beast Bomb on Storm, and Shida would break up the pinfall with a knee strike. A beast bomb attempt to Shida was blocked before Rose took The Katana.
Baker from the pinfall up with a superkick before hitting the Curb Stomp. Storm was smart and scored the roll up – pinning Baker for the win.
Next week, she has a chance to make history and become the first ever three time AEW Women’s World Champion. Saraya would congratulate Storm, and says that next week – she doesn’t intend to fall to her former friend. Storm will leave New York with nothing.
Sometimes Friends Need To Fight It Out
Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara have an issue to solve. Since day one of AEW Dynamite, Guevara has been someone that Jericho could rely on – but he’s starting to doubt his choices.
Jericho has constantly put himself first, and would even blame Guevara for his recent loss to Will Ospreay at AEW All In London 2023. There’s only one way they know how to solve issues like this, and that’s in the ring – which comes next week, and tonight – we hear from both men.
Jericho would confirm that fans have seen it right – next week, for the first time ever – it’s Jericho vs. Guevara. They’ve been friends for four years, through highs and lows, ups and downs.
Jericho would show a video package they put together of their history – including their shove at All In and when Guevara left the Inner Circle briefly during their issues with MJF.
October 21st, 2018 – Jericho was watching an NWA show and say a kid named Sammy Guevara, and was blown away. He was impressed by the talent he saw, and would talk to Tony Khan about bringing him into the plans for what would become AEW. Jericho is proud of the growth he’s seen from Guevara – and knows he’s ready for whatever comes next.
Neither Man Is Going To Hold Their Punches
Guevara would say that Jericho has always inspired him, and won’t say anything negative about Jericho ahead of this match. Jericho has changed his life, and the lives of many backstage in AEW. Without Chris Jericho, there might not be an AEW. However – he didn’t come to AEW to become Jericho’s sidekick.
Guevara wants AEW to look at him the way they look at Moxley, Danielson or Jericho. This is not going to happen unless he can defeat Jericho next week at Grand Slam. Jericho said that Guevara is getting closer to his potential, and knows that Guevara has to do it out of Jericho’s shadow.
Guevara has to beat him next week to hit that next level, and has to be better than he’s ever been to defeat Jericho. All that said, Jericho doesn’t think he’s ready to hit that level and beat him. Guevara intends to prove him wrong, then they’ll shake hands and become the AEW World Tag Team Champions.
Next week, Jericho gives Guevara the match of his life. He’s not going to go easy on him, he’s going to drag him through hell – hit him harder than he’s ever done to another opponent. Jericho expects the same from Guevara, and he’d have it no other way.
