Since Bray Wyatt’s passing we’ve heard about different dream matches fans and the talent had hoped to see, with Finn Balor recently echoing fans’ dream match of seeing his Demon against Bray Wyatt’s Fiend character.
The sadly didn’t happen, and due to some creative hiccups another match fans were curious about didn’t happen either.
Bray Wyatt and Uncle Howdy Were Meant to be a WrestleMania 39 Match
Since his return following his release, Wyatt introduced us to a new character that felt more him than the others, though they all were a part of him. Along with his new persona came a new character his brother Bo Dallas portrayed.
It would’ve been a cool step in their storyline as it appeared Uncle Howdy either controlled or tried to control Wyatt until he attacked him.
In Wyatt’s own words, it was drawn on things that really happened to him and we were stoked to see the storyline develop and grow.
Not big enough
Learning who Uncle Howdy was and is would’ve been a great moment, but it was reported by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Wyatt and Uncle Howdy were going to have a match at WrestleMania 39, but those plans were nixed.
It’s been rumored it was because Uncle Howdy didn’t have enough of a build up leading to it. A few more weeks to really flesh it out would’ve worked, but there was time.
This feels like it may have been a creative change behind the scenes by the higher ups or maybe Wyatt was fully happy with how it was progressing. For whatever the reason was, Wyatt was slated to face Bobby Lashley instead.
That match up took everyone by surprise as it made no sense, but unfortunately it didn’t happen either as it’s been reported that was probably when Wyatt contracted Covid.
The rest is tragic as it eventually led to Wyatt’s passing and the wrestling world losing one of its more creative minds and gifted performers.
In an age where so much of a match and storylines are spot fests, the WWE has returned to long term storyline telling and this could’ve been another one we could’ve enjoyed for months as everything unfolded.
If there is a good thing to come out of this, following Wyatt’s passing, Bo Dallas reportedly said he’ll continue the Wyatt family with Erik Redbeard, so there’s a chance we’ll see more of Uncle Howdy at some point as he steps in to pay his brother an homage.
What do you think about the Uncle Howdy and Bray Wyatt match we never got? Will the WWE bring it back in another incarnation? Let us know in the comments below.
