It looks like there’s a lot more news to come from CM Punk’s last days with AEW in the coming days, and it’s going to be interesting to hear what’s going to be said. The biggest thing to come out so far may not be Punk being fired, but why he was fired.
While Tony Kahn has stated it became a dangerous work environment after Punk lunged at him and the monitors fall, endangering him and others there may be more to it than just that.
Did CM Punk THREATEN Tony Kahn Behind Closed Doors?
We’re not surprised since these things all come out in layers, but it doesn’t paint Punk in a good light, so it’ll be good to hear what he has to say about what happened.
Something more
Wade Keller gave an audio update on PWTorch that he heard there is more to what happened between Punk and Kahn and witnesses weren’t there to see it.
Since it was behind closed doors, Kahn is the only one besides Punk to know what was said, and that is believed to be what ended up forcing Kahn to fire him.
Special thanks to wrestlingnew.co for the transcript.
Keller said: “Tony only told people about. My understanding is that there was something behind a closed door also that may come out or may not, depending on how all this plays out. When Punk quit and chewed out Tony, there was an element of that that was not in front of dozens of people that others have said they’re trying to get confirmation on but I’m confident in based on my sourcing, which I won’t get into. I think there’s other elements of it than just the monitors.”
If Keller’s sources are right, then this would be a different incident than what happened with the monitors in front of witnesses and on security cameras.
Dave Meltzer talked about how he toned down the phrase of “lunging” and that it was more than that.
“It was probably stronger than that….lunging was, again, far too kind. If you saw the actual wording of what was said, lunging was like I was toning it down. It was more than lunging.”
Bryan Alvarez responded with: “And I had heard that when he moved towards Tony, whatever word you want to use, that the monitors there were like monitors that fell on Tony Khan. As you noted, there was security camera footage. So this was not something people were like, well, ‘How come there wasn’t security camera footage of the brawl?’ Well, it’s because that was inside a locker room. They don’t have cameras in the locker room. But this was Gorilla, and they had cameras all over the place.”
With AEW bracing for what they expect to be an explosive response from Punk about his firing, things are bound to get pretty heated. What do you think of the story? Could Punk have threatened Kahn or was his firing strictly due to the monitor incident? Let us know in the comments below.
