Since the start of All Elite Wrestling, there has been a few names who instantly connected with fans. While the likes of Kenny Omega, Chris Jericho & Jon Moxley were obvious from the start – people like Darby Allin & Orange Cassidy were less expected.
However, both have grown into major stars for AEW – ready to reach the main event spot on PPV events. We saw this recently with Cassidy on AEW All Out 2023, but Allin might not be far behind.
Jim Ross Thinks Darby Allin Is Among The Best Homegrown Talents He’s Ever Seen
One name who fully knows how good Allin has been is Jim Ross. While talking about the latest episode of AEW Collision on his Grillin’ JR podcast – Ross would talk about the match between Darby Allin & Roderick Strong. The Hall of Fame voice of wrestling had the following to say.
““The match quality on Collision has been pretty good. I called the Samoa Joe/Penta match, the main event of that show, and I thought those guys just turned it up. Samoa Joe is in a different place. He’s as good, if not better, than he’s ever been. Penta had the best singles match he’s had in AEW, so those guys were motivated.
Earlier in the night, the Roddy Strong/Darby Allin match was nothing short of epic. He’s a fearless kid, I love him. He’s just one of the best homegrown prospects I’ve ever seen. He’s young, he’s in his mid-20s. So if he can hold up…that whole story was about his spine, his back. That’s what the announcers should be talking about because that was the whole story. Roddy Strong did a lot of creative things to focus on that body part.”
Strong would win the match, but lost the finals of the Grand Slam Eliminator tournament to Samoa Joe. Allin will be in action for the biggest episode of Dynamite of the year, teaming with Sting to face Christian Cage & Luchasaurus in tag team action. With AEW WrestleDream set for his hometown of Seattle – we can expect Allin in a major match on October 1st.
