Recently, a record would be smashed in WWE. Gunther would break the Honky Tonk Man’s record for the longest single reign as WWE Intercontinental Champion – a record which stood for over 35 years.
He would defeat many on the way to this record, most recently facing Chad Gable in a series of matches – which nearly seen him fall short of the record by a few days. However, now he remains in the crosshairs of those looking for gold – and Tommaso Ciampa is determined to make that title his.
Tommaso Ciampa Is The Better Wrestler Than Gunther Every Day Of The Week
The two time NXT Champion would speak in an online exclusive, making his intentions crystal clear – take the title, and show everyone he’s a better wrestler than Gunther.
“Tonight we got the job done. But the job’s not done. I made it clear that Imperium did not choose me, I chose Imperium. The truth is, I chose Gunther.
If I gotta go through Giovanni and Ludwig to get to Gunther, we’re gonna to the final boss. We’re gonna get to that Intercontinental Title. Let me tell you something about the Intercontinental Title, what that means to me.
This business didn’t choose me. I chose this business from a very, very young age. This is my first love. Now, 20 years deep, I think about what got that love sparked. It’s Bret Hart, it’s ‘Rowdy’ Piper, it’s Mr. Perfect, it British Bulldog.
It’s the Intercontinental Title – it’s the workhorse title because that title was built for guys like me. Now look what Gunther’s done. You’ve surpassed them all.
You are the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time. For now. Because soon, the dragon will be slayed, and I will be the dragon-slayer.
Gunther, we’re gonna step in that ring together, whether you like it or not. We’re gonna lock eyes, and I’m gonna see that doubt creep in. That doubt that hasn’t crept in for the past year.
Because you know something that I know. Tommaso Ciampa is a better professional wrestler than Gunther on Monday, on Tuesday, on Wednesday, on Thursday, on Friday, on Friday, on Saturday, on Sunday, on Monday again. Your time’s coming up, and new.”
Gunther & Ciampa have one prior meeting, which seen Gunther defeat Ciampa to retain the NXT UK Championship. Ciampa defeated Giovanni Vinci last night on Monday Night RAW.
